More Pixel 6 XL details emerge from Android 12 Beta 3

Along with the release of Android 12 Beta 3, Google has also been pushing updates to its apps for compatibility reasons. But thanks to XDA Developers, there have been some new references for Google’s rumored Pixel 6 XL (or Pro). This time around, the Google Camera app may have just confirmed that Google’s larger device could feature an “ultra tele” camera.

The Google Camera app was just updated to version 8.3.252, and brings support for Android 12’s dynamic theming with Material You. But the code also reveals that the Pixel 6 XL could sport a 5X zoom camera. The 5x zoom option would appear in the viewfinder while sharing that the “real” optical zoom level could be 4.3x.

XDA points out that the difference isn’t anything new. The Pixel 4 features a 2x optical zoom, but the “real” zoom came in at 1.6x.

For many, telephoto lenses aren’t as necessary as a good wide-angle and ultrawide-angle camera. But others rely on them all of the time, so it’s good to see that Google is working on such a camera.

Recent rumors from Jon Prosser have revealed that the Pixel 6 XL will sport a triple camera setup. It will be using a 50MP wide-angle (primary) camera, a 48MP telephoto lens, and a 12MP ultra-wide sensor. But if the 48MP telephoto camera has a 5x optical zoom, Google could have enough fire-power onboard to take back the crown from Samsung and Apple for best camera phone.

It’s unlikely that the Pixel 6 series will be unveiled any time soon. However, as more versions of Android 12 are released, it’s going to be interesting to see what other leaks and rumors appear up until the release.
