It’s strange that you would pay a company like Samsung $1,000 or even more for a brand new phone, but on top of that, the phone comes with ads that are displayed in its native apps. It doesn’t really make sense, but that’s something that Samsung phone owners have long had to put up with.
The good news is that this practice will be coming to an end soon. In a report from Maeil Business News, they quote Samsung mobile chief TM Roh who said that they will be removing ads from its native apps in the future. This includes apps such as the weather app, Samsung Pay, and Samsung Themes.
Roh’s comment was made in response to a question posed by an employee regarding ads in preinstalled apps. Roh says that the ads will eventually be removed via a One UI software update, but he did not mention when this update will be arriving or if these changes are planned only for Korea or if it will affect all Samsung phones, but we’re hoping it will be the latter.
That being said, Samsung isn’t alone in putting ads on their phones. Other companies like Xiaomi and Amazon have done the same in the past, although we suppose some might have expected more from Samsung whose flagship phones are usually some of the most anticipated phones every year.
