It looks like the Samsung Galaxy Note 21 will not be launching this year after all. We know some had hoped that this wasn’t the case, but it looks like it will no longer be happening. This also begs the question of the fate of the future of the Galaxy Note series. Will Samsung kill it off in favor of its foldables?
Maybe, maybe not.
According to a patent discovered by LetsGoDigital, it seems that Samsung could be considering bringing the Note series back in a new form factor. As you can see from the patent’s diagram, it is a phone with a single foldable display which unfolds from the back, expanding the display in the process.
Samsung has also cleverly opted to keep the cameras consistent by keeping it on the back when folded, and it becomes a selfie cam when unfolded, so users can look forward to high quality photos regardless (selfie cams tend to be a little less impressive than the rear-facing main cameras).
It’s also an interesting design and a different approach Samsung took with its Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3, but it’s not a bad idea. In fact, the patent also suggests that the S Pen could be hidden away in its own compartment behind the display of the phone, which is quite clever too.
There’s no telling if this patent will ever become a reality, but we suppose we will have to wait until 2022 to find out more about the fate of the Note series.
