Microsoft Surface Duo 2 Announcement 11

Microsoft promises three years of updates for the Surface Duo 2

As far as phones are concerned, Microsoft is still relatively new in that area. The Surface Duo, which launched last year, was the company’s first own-branded Android smartphone following their attempts at creating Nokia-branded Windows Phone devices back in the day.

As such, many are paying close attention to Microsoft and how they might handle support for their devices. The good news is that as far as the Surface Duo 2 is concerned, Microsoft has confirmed that similar to the Surface Duo, it will also be receiving three years worth of updates.

This is according to a statement made by a Microsoft representative to Android Authority, where they were quoted as saying, “We are committed to providing three years of OS and security updates.” Like we said, Microsoft made a similar pledge for the Surface Duo and according to the company, Android 11 is expected to be pushed out to the Surface Duo by the end of 2021.

That being said, we are more curious about the Android 12 update though. Given that Android 12 will be released to the public possibly in the coming month or two, where does Microsoft stand? Do Surface Duo and Surface Duo 2 owners need to wait until late 2022 before Android 12 is available?

Given the price of the phones, it seems rather unreasonable to expect customers to pay that much for a phone with such poor after sales support.
