Now that the dust has settled a bit following the Pixel 6 launch, Motorola decided it was time to announce one of the first smartphones that will be arriving in early 2022. The aptly named Moto G Power (2022) is the latest in the long line of “G Power” devices that have seen mixed results over the past few years. There was a time where the G Power was easily the best budget Android phone you could buy, but the same couldn’t be said about the G Power (2021).
With the Moto G Power (2022), Motorola has decided to change things up a bit, and we aren’t just talking about the design. Instead of relying on a Qualcomm processor, the G Power (2022) makes the switch over to MediaTek with the Helio G37. This is one of MediaTek’s latest chipsets, and is said to offer slightly better performance compared to the Helio G35. Accompanying the G37 will be 4GB of RAM and either 64GB or 128GB of expandable storage, with the ability to use up to a 512GB microSD card.

The big battery returns with the G Power (2022), as Motorola continues to pack a 5,000mAh cell into its “Power” device. The company claims that the phone will last up to three days on a single charge, providing up to 18 hours of video playback. But there is a catch, as Motorola is limiting the charging speeds to a mere 10W. This continues to be a disappointment, but it’s clear that Motorola doesn’t feel the need to change things up at all.
On the bright side, the 6.5-inch LCD display sports an HD+ resolution, a 20:9 aspect ratio, and a 90Hz refresh rate. There’s an 8MP selfie camera tucked in the hole punch cutout at the top of the display, along with a triple camera array found on the back.
As for those rear cameras, the main wide-angle lens comes in at 50MP, with an f/1.8 aperture and uses Motorola’s Quad Pixel technology. This is said to provide 4x better low-light sensitivity, aiming to give you better shots even if the lighting conditions are less than optimal. Also found here are dual 2MP sensors, one of which is a macro lens, with the other acting as the depth sensor. Motorola has even gone so far as to implement its new “Dual Capture” mode, allowing you to record videos with both the selfie and rear cameras at the same time.
Pricing for the Moto G Power (2022) will begin at $199.99 for the 64GB model, or you can double the storage and get 128GB for just $249.99. Motorola did not provide a specific release date, but only said that the device will be arriving in the coming months at all the best carriers and MVNO’s. There will also be an unlocked variant available from Best Buy, Motorola, and Amazon, in early 2022.
