Now that all the major smartphone releases of 2021 have concluded, it’s time for the rumor mill to begin kicking up for devices coming early next year. We’ve seen some rumors regarding the Galaxy S22 series, and we’re learning more about the next OnePlus flagship in the OnePlus 10 Pro.
Previously, renders of the OnePlus 10 Pro have surfaced, courtesy of @OnLeaks and Zouton, but now, we’re getting a look at some dummy units of the 10 Pro. These dummy units come from @xleaks7 and Fathom Bracelets and line up with the renders that were previously revealed, confirming OnePlus’ decision to go with an absolute massive camera bump on the back. The camera model starts at the left edge of the device and extends out to just past the OnePlus logo in the middle.
While the branding doesn’t appear on these dummy units, the previously leaked renders suggest that OnePlus will continue using Hasselblad branding on the edge. As for the cameras themselves, there will be three sensors on the back, with a fourth cutout for the LED flash.
It’s a rather interesting design choice, but the only thing that I can think of is that I wish that the camera area would extend the width of the phone, similar to the Pixel 6 series. Using the OnePlus 10 Pro without a case will definitely cause some frustrations as the phone won’t lie flat on a table, and will definitely wobble if you use it in that state.
As for those cameras, another leak courtesy of Digital Chat Station claims that the 10 Pro will offer the same zoom functionalities as its predecessor. For reference, the OnePlus 9 Pro and its quad-camera setup offer 3.3x optical zoom and 30x digital zoom, suggesting that OnePlus could end up re-using the telephoto camera from the 9 Pro in its successor. There were hopes that OnePlus would follow in Samsung’s and Google’s footsteps and make the move to a periscope telephoto camera, but it doesn’t seem that will be the case.
Other rumored specs for the OnePlus 10 Pro include a 6.7-inch AMOLED display, while potentially being powered by Qualcomm’s rumored Snapdragon 8 Gen1 processor. We could potentially see a 5,000mAh battery along with up to 65W fast charging and availability sometime in March or April. However, it’s also been rumored that OnePlus will exclusively launch the OnePlus 10 series in China first, coming about a month after the rumored Xiaomi 12 is released.
