The design of smartphones has honestly gotten a bit boring over the years. This is because there are only so many ways one can design a rectangular object, right? Sure, we’re starting to see a shift towards phones with full displays, but otherwise it still looks more or less the same.
Oppo wants to change that status quo though, because according to a patent discovered by LetsGoDigital, it seems that Oppo could be toying around with the idea of putting secondary displays on the back of the phone.
We’re not too sure what the point is for the secondary rear-facing display, but it could be useful for those who want to shoot selfie videos but want to use the phone’s rear-facing cameras, which are generally better quality compared to the front-facing shooter. Having a rear-mounted display would let users see what they’re recording to ensure that they are in the frame.
Other than that, we have to admit that it feels more novel than practice, but still, kudos to Oppo for trying to come up with new ideas. That being said, as this is a patent, it’s hard to say if this is something Oppo is seriously considering or if it’s just an idea they’re messing around with, but what do you think? Would you like to see rear-facing secondary displays in future smartphones?
