HONOR Magic V

Some of the Honor Magic V’s specs have been leaked, and we can’t say we’re too surprised

Last week, Honor teased its first foldable smartphone, the Magic V. Not much is known about the handset, but a recent teaser video suggests that we could be looking at a device that would be similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 in terms of its form factor, but thanks to a post on Weibo by user Digital Chat Station, additional details have leaked.

According to the post, the leakster claims that the upcoming handset is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. It will also have a 120Hz refresh rate for one of its displays, and 90Hz for its other display. The main camera is also said to be of the 50MP variety, and it will come with Android 12 preinstalled and will support 66W fast charging.

To be fair, we can’t say that these specs come as a complete surprise. Given that the phone is intended to be launched in 2022, it would be borderline foolish of Honor to use a chipset from 2021. Plus displays in the past couple of years have been adopting faster refresh rates, so once again, it would be almost criminal if Honor wasn’t planning to go all out for its first foldable smartphone.

The company still has yet to mention when the phone will be announced, but CES 2022 is coming up so maybe the company could make an announcement then. Either way we’ll have to wait and see, but so far do you think the Honor Magic V has what it takes to challenge Samsung, especially with the very fruitful year the South Korean tech giant has had with its foldables?
