NVIDIA brings Android 11 to all of its Shield TV devices, including the original 2015 Shield TV

In the world of Android, there’s a constant conversation about the state of software updates with many phones being abandoned even after just a year. Streaming devices aren’t included in the conversation as much, but there are still plenty of issues in the world of Android TV boxes.

Considered by many to be the best Android TV streaming device available, the NVIDIA Shield TV is an incredible streaming device, offering a great user experience with plenty of extra features. The Shield TV was originally introduced back in 2015, was not succeeded until 2019. Even almost seven years later, NVIDIA is continuing to update the original, as the company is rolling out the Android 11 update to its lineup of Shield TVs. For a reference of how incredible this is, the Shield TV was originally released with Android Lollipop.

Along with the update to Android 11, all Shield TV owners are getting some new features and the ability to stream even more content. After the update has been installed, you’ll now be able to enjoy streaming services like IMDb TV, Apple TV, and IQIYI. NVIDIA is also bringing support for Dolby Vision to your favorite shows and movies via Google Play Movies & TV. The update also adds the ability to stream your PC games at 4K HDR on the Shield, provided that you are on the RTX 3080 tier.

• Adds Stadia button support to XBOX, Playstation, and SHIELD controllers
• Additional bug fixes

Another new feature, as noted by 9to5Google is added support for Google Stadia. Now, you’ll be able to use the Stadia controller with the Shield, including support for the Stadia button, in addition to being able to use Xbox or PlayStation controllers.

The update is rolling out now and should arrive on your Shield TV in the coming days if it’s not already available.
