Google releases new version of the February Android patch for the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro

0

Ten days ago, Google dropped the February Android Security Bulletin for all Pixel devices, marking the first time that the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro were included with the rest of the supported phones. The update included a few fixes for things like the camera and Bluetooth not acting correctly, along with your traditional bug fixes for all Pixel devices.

Fast forward to today, and Google has released a surprise update for just the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro (via 9to5Google). It’s unclear what is different in this update so far, but if head over to the OTA Images landing page, there’s a new entry for both of Google’s latest devices. These are definitely different than the version released earlier this month, as the build numbers are slightly different:

  • Pixel 6 – SQ1D.220205.004, Feb 2022
  • Pixel 6 Pro – SQ1D.220205.004, Feb 2022

At the time of this writing, the update has not yet rolled out to our Pixel 6 Pro on Verizon, but others have already reported receiving the update. Unlike the version released earlier this month, the new update is rather small in size, measuring just north of 10MB. So perhaps this means that Google just released a quick fix for the network issues that some are experiencing.

We’ll have to wait and see if there’s something else going on here, or if Google just needed to quickly fix something that had yet to be discovered. If you receive the update, let us know in the comments whether you notice any differences after the update is installed.
