Back in 2021, Sony launched the Xperia 1 III. It’s actually kind of admirable for the company given that these days, Samsung pretty much dominates the Android smartphone market along with other Chinese brands like Xiaomi, Oppo, and OnePlus, but despite those challenges, the company has forged on.
In fact, it seems that Sony could actually be preparing to launch a new smartphone for 2022 in the form of the Sony Xperia 1 IV, and thanks to renders by @OnLeaks and GizNext, we might have an idea of what the upcoming handset could look like.
The renders shared by the publication reveal a phone that looks a lot like its predecessor, not that it’s a bad thing. What’s interesting is that Sony doesn’t seem to be bucked to current smartphone trends when it comes to design as the handset remains distinctly Sony. As far as we can tell, there are no visible changes.
The report does claim that Sony has made some changes to the dimensions of the phone, but other than that, on the surface things look the same. Other than that, not much else is known about the phone right now. We expect that given that it is supposed to be a flagship, it will most likely be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, and that Sony will most likely include some improvements to the cameras.
The last time the Sony Xperia 1 III was launched, it was back in July of 2021, so we expect that the announcement for this phone should be around the same time as well, give or take.
