Amidst all of the other announcements so far at MWC 2022, Oppo introduced its 150W SUPERVOOC charging technology. According to Oppo, this will be able to charge a 4,500mAh battery from 0-100% in just 15 minutes and will debut on phones later this year. However, it seems that OnePlus is looking to jump on the SUPERVOOC train, as Android Central reports that the OnePlus Nord 3 could be the first OnePlus phone to offer this charging technology. Taking things a step further, sources suggest that the Nord 3 will offer a design similar to that of the Realme GT Neo 3, which also takes advantage of 150W charging speeds.
In the same forum post detailing changes coming to OxygenOS, Founder and CEO Pete Lau confirmed that the technology “will debut first on a OnePlus smartphone in the second quarter of 2022”. It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that it would land on the Nord 3, as this remains one of the company’s best options in global markets. Recently, the company launched the Nord CE 2, which offers an impressive triple camera array, while also supporting 65W fast charging.
Considering that the OnePlus 10 Pro was already announced, it’s clear that the company’s first major flagship won’t support SUPERVOOC, as it already offers 80W fast wired charging and 50W fast wireless charging. But if OnePlus wants to right the ship, bringing 150W charging speeds would definitely help entice users to ditch other options.
What remains to be seen is whether OnePlus will release an unannounced smartphone here in the U.S. that includes this charging technology. Until now, the Nord series has largely remained off the grid, with limited offerings from the likes of T-Mobile. But since OnePlus appears to still be in a bit of flux as it has been absorbed by Oppo, the global release strategy has definitely changed a bit. It’s part of why the 10 Pro was originally released in China as that version shipped with ColorOS, and the global version will ship with OxygenOS 12.1, offering a slightly different experience.
2022 is going to be a big year for OnePlus, and we hope that the company can get back on track following a rather frustrating and disastrous second half of 2021.
