Phandroid’s Best of MWC 2022

Mobile World Congress 2022 is well underway, and suffice to say, we’ve already seen a slew of new and exciting announcements for Android enthusiasts. From phones to Super Devices, and everything in between, we’ve rounded up our favorite announcements to bring you Phandroid’s best of MWC 2022!

Oppo Find X5 Pro

Before MWC 2022 even got started, Oppo led off with a big announcement of its own as the Oppo Find X5 and Find X5 Pro was announced. Following last year’s success, the Find X5 Pro implements the same great design along with updated specs and an improved software experience. From its 120Hz dynamic refresh rate to 80W SuperVOOC charging and 50W AirVOOC wireless charging, it definitely looks like Oppo has another major flagship challenger on its hands.

Oppo 150W SUPERVOOC

Oppo’s first major announcement during MWC 2022 came courtesy of its ultra-fast charging technology. The company is already leading the way in terms of how quickly you can get your phone juiced back up to 100%, and that number is only going to get lower thanks to the innovations made with SuperVOOC. With 150W SuperVOOC and its flash charging capabilities, you’ll be able to go from 0-50% in just 5 minutes, while reaching 100% in just 15 minutes. It’s simply incredible what Oppo is doing, and now we just have to wait until this functionality arrives on a phone.

Honor Magic 4 Pro and Watch GS 3

Honor has had quite an interesting couple of years. The company has gone from being under Huawei’s wing to standing on its own. After seeing a major resurgence in 2021, Honor is getting 2022 kicked off with a bang as the company introduced its new lineup of flagship phones in the Honor Magic 4 and Magic 4 Pro. Specifically, the Magic 4 Pro is a true Galaxy S22 and Oppo Find X5 Pro competitor with its 100W fast charging, incredible quad-camera array, and an LTPO display that is designed to help relieve eye strain without applying any blue-light filters.

Realme GT2 Pro

Over the past few years, Realme’s bread and butter has been in the budget and mid-range segments. And while that has proven to be a successful decision, Realme decided it was time to break into the flagship market with the Realme GT2 Pro. The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, features a unique “bio-based polymer” design, and sports a triple-camera setup that will handle pretty much any situation.

Lenovo Chromebook Duet 3

When the original Lenovo Chromebook Duet was released, there was hope that it would revolutionize the Chromebook industry to focus more on the tablet style. While that hasn’t exactly come to fruition the way that we hoped, Lenovo is sticking with this form factor as it has announced the IdeaPad Duet 3 Chromebook. The Duet 3 features an 11-inch 2K touchscreen display that is also compatible with Lenovo’s Stylus Pen.

ZTE Nubia Z40 Pro

There’s just something about having the convenience of MagSafe that makes us wish Android phone makers would adopt a similar solution. Originally, we assumed Samsung would have something to say about that, but as it turns out, ZTE-owned Nubia was already on it. The Nubia Z40 Pro debuted at MWC 2022 with plenty of features to catch your eye. It’s a flagship phone as it’s powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which is paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. But with the Gravity Edition, you’ll be able to try out a true competitor to MagSafe without using an iPhone.

Huawei Super Device

Most of the time, when you ask an iPhone user why they also rely on a Mac and/or iPad, there’s a lot of talk about the “ecosystem”. We’ve seen Samsung attempt something similar with its family of Galaxy devices, along with pairing with Microsoft to implement some new and unique features for Windows. But Huawei is looking to take things even further with its new Super Device. This ecosystem uses your computer as the center of the “universe”, while making it easy to connect and control your other devices right from the epicenter.

TCL 30 5G

If you were hoping to get some new phone options out of MWC 2022, you were in luck. TCL arguably made the biggest splash as it announced a total of five new phones that will join the TCL 30 XE 5G and TCL 30 V 5G. But the best phone to come out of TCL at MWC 2022 was the TCL 30 5G with its €249 price tag. It’s equipped with the company’s unique and impressive NXTVISION technology, while also being certified by TÜV Rheinland. It may easily rest in the budget segment, but there’s no doubt that this may end up being the best budget phone for those who also want 5G connectivity.

Poco X4 Pro 5G

Xiaomi-owned Poco has been duking it out with Realme in the budget segment, but instead of launching a new flagship competitor, the Poco X4 Pro 5G, and M4 Pro were announced at MWC 2022. The Poco X4 Pro 5G features a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with a refresh rate of 120Hz and can reach up to 700 nits of typical brightness or 1,200 nits peak brightness. Powering the phone is the Snapdragon 695 which will provide 15% better CPU performance compared to its predecessor along with 30% better GPU performance. Plus, you’ll find a triple-camera array headlined by a 108MP wide-angle lens, along with an 8MP ultra-wide and a 2MP macro lens.
