The Galaxy Watch 5 is rumored to make it easier to check your temperature

If you’re looking for the best of the best when it comes to Android smartwatches, look no further than the Galaxy Watch lineup. Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 series is the only option, for now at least, if you want to try out Wear OS 3, but Samsung also tries to pack as many features into its smartwatches as it can. It seems that this trend is expected to continue with the Galaxy Watch 5, according to a report from ETNews.

In the report, ETNews claims that Samsung will add a thermometer to its next family of smartwatches, allowing users to keep track of their body temperature right from their wrist. We’ve been expecting similar functionality to come to previous Galaxy Watch models, along with the Apple Watch, but there are a lot of different factors at play. For one, your skin is constantly subject to change as your skin temperature can change if there’s light shining on it, or if you have a hoodie covering it up.

However, this report suggests the following:

It is understood that Samsung Electronics has devised a technology that can measure body temperature as accurately as possible.

To go along with the Galaxy Watch 5’s rumored ability to track skin temperature, it appears that Samsung will be implementing similar functionality into its next-generation Galaxy Buds. Unlike the Watch, the earbuds rely on “detecting infrared wavelengths emitted from the eardrum.” If Samsung does, in fact, provide this functionality with its next earbuds then it would definitely give the company a leg up when it comes to fitness and health tracking.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t much else to share in this latest report, outside of a potential launch for the Galaxy Watch 5 sometime this Summer. Looking at recent trends, it wouldn’t come as much surprise if the latest Galaxy Watch debuts alongside Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4. We hope to learn more about these upcoming wearables over the next few months leading up to their official release.
