0

Right before the end of 2021, the Xiaomi 12 debuted in the company’s home country of China. The Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro are the latest devices to come from the company and aim to be one of the best phones of the year, complete with all of the flagship specs you could want.

But now, Xiaomi is ready to bring make its latest device more accessible to everyone as the company has announced the global launch of the Xiaomi 12. As a refresher, the Xiaomi 12 sports a 6.28-inch AMOLED display complete with a 120Hz refresh rate and an under-display fingerprint scanner. Speaking of under-display, Xiaomi is also using an “in-display” 32MP selfie camera, continuing a trend that we’ve been seeing from certain phone makers over the past couple of years.

As expected, Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset provides the power, while being coupled with 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of LPDDR5 storage. As for battery life, we have a 4,500mAh cell complete with 67W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and Xiaomi’s Adaptive Charge to ensure that your phone doesn’t get too hot when you are juicing it back up.

  • Display: 6.28-inch AMOLED DotDisplay (2400 x 1080)
  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1
  • RAM: 8GB

  • Front Camera: 32MP (in-display), f/2.45
  • Rear Cameras:

  • Extras: 120Hz Refresh Rate, 67W Wired Charging, 50W Wireless Charging, Dolby Atmos, In-display fingerprint scanner

Moving to the rear cameras, the Xiaomi 12 makes use of a triple camera array. This is headlined by the Sony IMX766 50MP wide-angle lens, which is regarded as one of the best camera sensors of the year. Accompanying the main camera is a 13MP ultra-wide lens, along with a 5MP telemacro camera featuring Auto Focus. Xiaomi has also integrated a few extra features into the software, such as ProFocus and Ultra Night Video which both use the device’s AI abilities to improve photography and videography.

Things start to differ a bit once you get to the Xiaomi 12 Pro, as this is the largest phone of the bunch. It sports a 6.73-inch Samsung E5 AMOLED display, complete with a QHD+ resolution and a 120Hz variable refresh rate.

Under the hood, you’ll find the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, along with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM and a single 256GB storage configuration. Battery life has been ever-so-slightly increased up to 4,600mAh, but this isn’t where the real improvement is. Instead, it’s in the incredible 120W HyperCharge technology that will take your phone from 0-100% in just 18 minutes using Boost Mode. Xiaomi has also integrated 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless charging.

The camera system has also been upgraded with the 12 Pro, as we have a triple 50MP camera array. Xiaomi is using the same 50MP main sensor across the board while swapping in a 50MP ultra-wide with a 115-degree FoV and a 50MP telephoto lens capable of offering a 48mm zoom. The 12 Pro also integrates a quad-speaker system tuned by Harmon Kardon and featuring support for Dolby Atmos thanks to the use of two tweeters and two woofers.

Rounding out today’s announcement is the global availability of the Xiaomi 12X. This phone shares pretty much all of the same specs as the standard Xiaomi 12, however, is powered by the Snapdragon 870 instead of the SD8 Gen 1.

Another feature you’ll miss out on with the Xiaomi 12X is wireless charging, but Xiaomi is making up for that by still including 67W wired charging speeds. This is definitely going to be the “go-to” if you don’t want the latest and greatest processing power but still want a compact near-flagship smartphone experience.

All three of these devices will be available soon, with the Xiaomi 12 priced at $749, the 12 Pro coming in at $999, and the Xiaomi 12X rounding out the pack at $649.
