It was only a matter of time, but Google has finally started dropping some teasers for when we can expect I/O 2022 to take place. The first teaser is an interactive puzzle game that you can play on your phone or in your browser of choice. Presumably, once the various puzzles have all been solved, we’ll know exactly when the event will be held this year.

Traditionally, Google I/O is held over the course of a few days in May at Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California. While last year saw the return of I/O, the event was not open to the press or developers like it had been in years prior.
Perhaps solving this puzzle will reveal all of the pertinent and important details, and we’re trying to figure it out as fast as we can. When you load up the interactive puzzle, you are presented with several different strings that need to be untangled. But it’s not as simple as trying to drag one of the dots across the lines to unravel the string. For instance, if you tap one of the blocks, you’ll need to add different dots to the string, which will then reveal the number 31, and that will take you to a grid of different numbers. The further you go, the more hints that are made available.
Google has a knack for getting everyone all worked up when it comes to announcing I/O and other events throughout the year. It offers a refreshing take on event announcements, as opposed to just seeding invitations to blogs and members of the press.
Let us know if you’ve managed to solve the puzzle already so we can know when I/O is coming back!
