One of the problems of switching from one mobile platform to the other is that they’re both so different that it isn’t always possible to bring everything over. Apple has an app that makes it easier for Android users to switch to iOS, and it seems that Google could also be working on something similar called “Switch to Android”.
Now according to a report from 9to5Google, an APK teardown of Google’s “Data Transfer Tool” app has revealed some additional details. According to the teardown, it seems that there is reference to how the app will be able to access a user’s iCloud account and transfer photos and videos stored in there over to Google Photos.
This means that instead of users having to manually export all their iCloud data and then reupload it themselves to Google Photos, the app will be able to do it for them which helps make the overall process a lot less painful and smoother. The publication also discovered that there is mention of how users could make the transfer using a cable, like a USB-C to Lightning cable.
Given that almost all Android devices use USB-C these days, and with Apple bundling a USB-C to Lightning cable with their newer iPhones, this should be pretty straightforward as well. Unfortunately, there’s still no word on when Google is expected to debut this “Switch to Android” app, but iPhone users out there looking to jump ship, this could be an app to look out for.
