Earlier this month, Google released the latest Pixel Feature Drop, bringing with it support for Night Sight in Snapchat, along with the all-new Pixel Battery Widget. However, if you own either a Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro, you were left out of the fun again.
The update has been available for every other Pixel device ranging from the Pixel 3a to the Pixel 5a (5G), but Google still can’t seem to get software updates right with the Pixel 6 hardware. In the official announcement, the only timeline provided by Google was “later this month”.
Thanks to Fido, a Candian carrier, Google could push the Pixel Feature Drop to the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro on Monday, March 21. This would mark two weeks between the latest update release for the rest of the Pixel lineup and the one made available for Google’s latest smartphones. According to Fido’s OS Upgrade Schedule, This update brings the “March SMR & more”, which matches up with the “Pixel 3a – 5” listing right below it.
Ever since the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro was released, Google has had a tough time keeping up with the updates for its latest devices. While an inconvenience, this normally wouldn’t be a big issue, but the Pixel 6 series has also been plagued with bugs that bring the phones to their knees. The latest of which is a bug that automatically disconnects your Wi-Fi and is expected to be fixed with the March update.
We’re keeping our fingers crossed that Google can get its update problem under control. Maybe there’s something going on with the Tensor chip that the company wasn’t expecting, but considering that Google is expected to produce the Tensor 2, we can only hope that these problems don’t continue to plague users.
