MediaTek has posted an official announcement unveiling one of its newest chipsets, namely the Dimensity 1300. Built to give reliable performance speeds for mid-range devices, the chipset is set to compete with the likes of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7-series chips.
The Dimensity 1300 will be able to support 168Hz displays with 2520x1080p resolutions. The chipset is built on TSMC’s 6nm process, with an octa-core processor composed of four Cortex-A78 cores, and four Cortex-A55 efficiency cores, scaling up to 2GHz. The graphics processor is a 9-core Arm Mali-G77 MC9. While no official announcements have been made about any handsets that might feature the Dimensity 1300, some reports predict that the new chip might make its device debut with the upcoming OnePlus Nord 2T and Nord 3. Of course, 5G connectivity is included.
According to MediaTek, the SoC is developed for gaming with boosted AI performance, new MediaTek HyperEngine 5.0 gaming technologies, and a design optimized for extended battery life. MediaTek has been making improvements to its product line for the past few years, focusing on performance with the introduction of the Dimensity series.
There’s also been word that Samsung might utilize a MediaTek chipset for its next flagship devices, which include the upcoming Galaxy S22 FE and Galaxy S23, predicted to be announced sometime this year. While Samsung mostly uses Exynos and Qualcomm-branded SoCs, the company occasionally equips MediaTek processors in some of its phones, namely the Galaxy “A” and Galaxy “M” handsets. Currently, MediaTek’s most powerful SoCs include the Dimensity 8100 and 9000, which are found on a number of high-end Android devices.
Additionally, a lot of upcoming SoCs have been making the rounds lately, including Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus and 7 Gen 1, which will go head-to-head with the Dimensity 9000 and 8100. Rumors of a new in-house SoC from Samsung have also surfaced, which will be designed exclusively for the company’s Galaxy phones.
