Right now, Netflix has a way for users to rate the shows that they watch on the platform by either giving it a thumbs up or thumbs down. It’s an adequate system, but there might be times when a show you watch is particularly good, so what’s to differentiate it from a show you thought was only OK but not worthy of a thumbs down?
This is why Netflix has announced a new ratings feature in the form of Double Thumbs Up, giving users the ability to rate shows that they’ve really enjoyed in a slightly different way from the regular Thumbs Up. According to Netflix:
“Our current Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down buttons are a good way for you to tell us how you feel about a series or film, and in return, you get a profile that’s better personalized to your taste. However, we’ve learned over time that these feelings can go beyond a simple like or dislike. Providing an additional way to tell us when you’re really into something means a profile with recommendations that better reflect what you enjoy.”
Netflix believes that with this new Double Thumbs Up feature, users will be able to fine-tune their recommendations by letting the platform know which shows they really like, thus allowing Netflix to make better recommendations in the future.
This new feature will be rolling out to users on Netflix today and should be available across the entire platform, which includes TV apps, the web, and also Netflix’s iOS and Android mobile apps.
