Now there have been many smartphone companies that have emerged over the years. Some of them only ever make one or two devices before succumbing to the intense competition and bowing out. Some, like LG, have been here from almost the start but still struggled to find its place.
OnePlus was one of those companies that came into a market stiff with competition but eventually made a name for themselves and carved out a slice of the market and has garnered its fair share of loyal fans.
The OnePlus 10 Pro was announced earlier this year, but the handset was initially only available in China. OnePlus later announced that the phone would be making its way to global markets, including North America. Now that the handset is finally here, the big question here is, should you get it?
Assuming you’re not necessarily a die-hard fan and with there being so many other options in the market already for 2022, should you get the OnePlus 10 Pro? Here are some reasons why you should.
Big, beautiful display
The OnePlus 10 Pro comes equipped with a 6.7-inch QHD+ AMOLED display with a buttery smooth 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. If you’ve only ever used smartphones that use a standard 60Hz refresh rate, let’s just say that once you’ve experienced a 120Hz display, surfing websites on a display that’s slower feels almost “laggy”.
For those concerned about battery, OnePlus claims that the OnePlus 10 Pro can actually switch between refresh rates faster than its predecessors, meaning that when 120Hz is not necessary, it can drop its refresh rate to a crawl, which in turn helps conserve battery.
Massive battery
Speaking of battery, the OnePlus 10 Pro is also packing a pretty respectable 5,000mAh battery. Most phones we’ve seen typically hover around the 4,000 to 4,500mAh range, so seeing a phone in the 5,000mAh range is refreshing. This is also actually the biggest battery OnePlus has ever equipped any of its phones with.
So combine that with the energy efficient display, the more energy efficient chipset, you should be able to squeeze quite a bit out of the phone’s battery before it needs to be juiced up again. As for charging, the OnePlus 10 Pro supports 65W fast charging in the US (80W for other markets) which is pretty decent and you should have no problems bringing it back up to usable levels in a relatively short amount of time.
Hasselblad cameras
If you’re a photographer, then you are definitely aware of the Hasselblad brand and the connotations that come with it. OnePlus actually struck up a partnership with the company with the OnePlus 9 series and it looks like it’s continuing with the OnePlus 10 Pro.
The phone features a 48MP main camera, which might seem “small” compared to phones with sensors over 100MP, but honestly given that most photos shot are shared on social media and typically viewed on a phone screen, we’d much rather have a camera that does the job well rather than have a high megapixel count but has poor software.
With support for 10-bit color and a Pro mode that can shoot 12-bit RAW images, this should be more than enough to satisfy most smartphone photographers.
Packing all the latest tech
Given that the OnePlus 10 Pro is a phone launching in 2022, it’s not surprising that it comes packing the latest hardware and software. We’re talking about the use of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset and also comes with Android 12 preinstalled. If you’re the type that doesn’t change their phones very often, having the latest tech at least ensures that you’ll be futureproofed for the foreseeable future.
Decent price
Now, OnePlus built a name for themselves at the start of the company’s inception by creating value for money phones. The prices of their phones have increased over the years and the OnePlus 10 Pro is no exception, but when you compare it to some of the other brands out there, it’s actually not too bad.
Remember, you’re getting all the latest hardware, a big and beautiful display, and a set of amazing cameras designed in collaboration with Hasselblad. The fact that it hasn’t hit the $1,000 mark actually makes this a pretty decent purchase.
