Leaked photos suggest Sony’s WH-1000XM5 could finally be getting a brand new look

For the past several years, Sony has been leading the charge in the market for wireless noise-canceling over-ear headphones with its WH-1000XM series. For the most part, the overall design of the headphones hasn’t changed, but it seems that it could finally be getting a brand new design.

According to a report from TechnikNews, they have published a report and shared images that are allegedly that of the Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones, the successor to the XM4. Assuming that these renders are the real deal, it looks like the XM5s could be getting a completely new look from its predecessors.

The new design looks a lot more sleek compared to the previous models. Instead of a seamless band, Sony has opted for a band that tapers off into a pair of thinner legs attached to each ear cup. If anything, we have to say that it kind of reminds us of Bose’s NC 700 headphones, not that that’s a bad thing.

The report goes on to claim that in addition to the new design, it will feature improved battery life where it is said to last up to 40 hours on a single charge, up from the 30 hours in the previous model. It will also sport a brand new set of drivers and an additional processing chip for noise-cancelation.

There’s no word on when the headphones are expected to launch, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
