A new analysis of the Google Stadia app (version 4.13) courtesy of 9to5Google shows that new features might be coming to the game-streaming app soon. The findings point to game-specific touch controls as well as support for 1440p streaming on Android devices.
According to the APK report, the buttons will feature a visual redesign. Instead of displaying the virtual touch buttons as “A,” “B,” “X,” etc, icons referring to the corresponding button actions will be shown instead. For example, the touch button designated for “running” will show an icon of a person running, and so on.
Back in 2020, Google introduced touchscreen controls for the Stadia app, which let gamers play on their phones without the need to connect a controller to their handset, although the on-screen controls were made to look like those on a Stadia gamepad.
Additionally, it’s been discovered that the latest version of the Stadia app mentions “UPTO_1440P” in the code, which might refer to upcoming improvements in streaming resolution for Android devices. Currently, streaming games on Stadia via Android is limited to either 720p or 1080p resolutions, although this could also be used for the Android TV Stadia app.
Stadia was launched back in November 2019, and lets gamers either buy games individually or as part of a subscription plan, which they can then stream from their Android devices, or on PC via desktop browser, or on a smart TV.
