Google Maps will soon let users set their preferred mode of transportation

0

When you use Google Maps to navigate your way to your destination, you can choose whether you plan to drive there, walk there, or take public transport, but most of the time you will need to choose it manually. According to 9to5Google, they discovered within the latest Google Maps beta v11.28 that soon, users will be able to set their preferred mode of transport.

This means that within the main app view, users will be able to star their preferred modes of transport. For example, if you typically use Google Maps when you’re driving, then you can star the “drive” mode so that when you search for directions, it will choose driving routes versus walking routes or public transport routes.

But wait, isn’t this old? For those who are unfamiliar, Google had previously already allowed users to set their preferences for transportation, but this feature was actually buried deep within the settings, meaning that users who haven’t fully explored the app might not have actually known about it.

By bringing these options to the forefront of the app, it will become more obvious and easier for users to access. That being said, keep in mind that this is part of the latest Google Maps beta which means that it might not necessarily make the final cut as Google could simply be testing it out and might change their minds later, but hopefully it’s something that we will see in the final release.
