Sony’s WH-1000XM5 headphones have been officially announced

Bose might have been the king of active noise cancelling headphones back in the day, but ever since Sony came onto the scene with its WH-1000XM series of headsets, it has been quite a toss up between either company when it came to consumers choosing which brand and model to buy.

If you’re a Sony fan or if you’re looking to convert to Sony, then you might be interested to learn that the company has since officially announced its latest pair of noise cancelling headphones, the WH-1000XM5. This is the successor to the WH-1000XM4 which was already a highly-rated set of headphones.

With the WH-1000XM5, Sony has opted to introduce a brand new design. This new design language is a lot more sleek and modern compared to the previous design, and to a certain extent we can’t but draw parallels to the Bose 700 headphones. It features a matte surface that’s available in black or white, with each earcup connected by a matching headband.

The headphones will feature the use of 30mm drivers which is actually smaller than its predecessor’s 40mm drivers. It supports the LDAC codec to deliver audio, and also works with SBC, AAC, and DSEE Extreme upscaling. It also comes with support for Sony’s 360 Reality Audio.

Sony has also included a whopping eight microphones inside of the headphones. This helps to not only make your voice sound clearer, but it will help with noise cancellation as well. The battery life on the WH-1000XM5s have also been improved from the previous model at 30 hours with ANC on, and 40 hours with ANC off.

If you’re keen on grabbing yourself a pair, they are available on Amazon where they are priced at $399.
