Google has recently been doubling down on its efforts to integrate health tracking features into its hardware and software services. Its purchase and continued integration of Fitbit and its services into the Google ecosystem, as well as the introduction of the new “Health Connect” API have been major steps taken by the company in order to promote more health-related services for consumers.
More recently, it would seem that Google is set on adding a few more health tracking features to its Pixel phones. A recent report from 9to5Google has revealed that the latest Google Health Studies app version contains strings in the app’s programming that show “Sleep Audio Collection.” The app update is part a new digital wellbeing study, which makes use of data from Fitbit and the Health Studies App.
According to Google, its Health Sensing team will be working on developing sensing capabilities and algorithms for use in Android devices, to enable users to monitor data and habits regarding their sleep patterns. As such, the sleep audio collection will provide the needed data in order to properly develop such algorithms.
The algorithms will then be used to develop a bedside monitoring feature for compatible Android devices, that will let users keep an eye on their cough and snore habits during the night. At the moment though, there’s no word from the company as to when the feature will be available to the public, given that it is still in its early stages of development.
