If the displays on your smartphone is one of the main features you look at when deciding on whether or not to buy a new phone, then the upcoming Google Pixel 7 and 7 Pro might be a bit disappointing on that front.
This is according to a report from 9to5Google who claims that based on their findings, it seems that the upcoming phones will be using the same displays as its predecessors. According to the report, the Pixel 7 will feature a 2400×1080 display with a 90Hz refresh rate, while the Pixel 7 Pro will sport a 1440×3120 display with a 120Hz refresh rate, both of which are identical to the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro.
The only difference is that apparently the Pixel 7 will have a smaller display, and by smaller we mean that it will be 1mm narrower and 2mm shorter, although whether or not this will be immediately obvious is unclear. The Pixel 7 Pro is expected to maintain the same size as the Pixel 6 Pro.
To be fair, we’ve kind of hit peak display based on today’s technology. Many phones these days pack FHD+ or 2K displays, and 4K displays are a rarity, so we’re not sure how much different Google could have gone with the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro. It’s not necessarily a bad thing but we suppose it does make it less exciting.
We expect that most of the changes will probably be under the hood, possibly with a new and upgraded Tensor chipset. Google did tease the Pixel 7 series at I/O earlier this month, but stopped short of mentioning when it would be launching, but based on the Pixel 6’s launch, it’ll probably take place later in the year.
