According to a recent rumor, it has been suggested that for Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Watch 5 series, the company could be ditching the rotating bezel which was one of the smartwatch’s iconic features.
Now according to a report from 9to5Google, they have discovered a recent update to the Samsung Health app where both the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro models were named, and also where placeholder images were used to showcase the upcoming watch’s designs.
The listing also seems to have confirmed that the Galaxy Watch 5 series will no longer be offered in a Classic model, which is the model for the Galaxy Watch 4 series that came with the rotating bezel. Instead, it appears that Samsung could be using the design of the Galaxy Watch 4 as inspiration for its new smartwatches.
As 9to5Google notes, while it probably isn’t the best idea to speculate based on placeholder images, they do point out that Samsung had previously leaked the Galaxy Watch 4 in a similar fashion back in 2021, so there is precedent to this. In any case, we expect that it will probably be a few more months before we see the Galaxy Watch 5 smartwatches officially announced, so take this with a grain of salt for now.
