The reason why many are pushing for the right to repair is because most companies tend to charge an arm and a leg if you were to send your device back to them for repair. The upside to this is that you’re pretty much guaranteed a fix, plus you know that the parts they use are the real deal.
The good news is that if you own a Google Pixel handset and would rather fix it yourself, iFixit has announced that customers will now be able to purchase genuine Pixel components from them, plus they will also provide users with documentation on how to go about fixing their phones.
This shouldn’t be surprising because it was back in April that Google and iFixit announced a partnership, so it looks like the program is now live. iFixit has also announced that wholesale parts will be available via their Pro network for the US, EU, CA, and AU markets, meaning that if you’d rather not fix the device yourself, not to worry as repair shops will also be able to get their hands on these components so that they can fix it for you.
Google is not alone in the right to repair initiative. Samsung had also previously announced a similar partnership with iFixit, and Apple has their own (albeit cumbersome) repair program. Granted, these are just a handful of companies compared to the dozens of Android phone brands out there, but we suppose it’s a good start.
