These days, it feels like we’ve hit peak smartphone design. It’s hard to make a rectangle look very different from another rectangle, but it hasn’t stopped companies from trying. In fact, Realme has announced its latest smartphone, the Realme GT 2 Explorer Master Edition which sports what Realme is calling a “Travel Trunk” design.
The design of the phone features environmentally-friendly vegan leather that is used on the back, along with metallic rivets used as decoration to help create that travel trunk look. According to the company, they worked with Jae-Jung, a fashion designer at The North Face, founder of Door, and who had previously worked for Ralph Lauren.
It also comes with LPDDR5X RAM, which uses less power than LPDDR5, making it faster and more energy efficient. It also sports a dual vapor chamber for cooling, and it also seems to be aimed at gamers with pressure-sensitive shoulder buttons. The phone also packs a triple camera setup on the back consisting of a 50MP main shooter, a 50MP ultrawide, and a 2MP macro camera capable of 40x magnification.
At the moment the phone is only available in China where it will be priced starting at CNY3,499. It does not appear to be launching in other markets at the moment, so don’t get your hopes up just yet.
