Apple tried a while back to create its own wireless charging mat, but it never really panned out. Instead, the company decided to go with something different in the form of MagSafe (not to be confused with the charging system used in Apple’s MacBook laptops).
It is technically wireless charging, but it uses a magnetic puck similar to that of the Apple Watch to help the device in place. It has since spawned quite a number of fun and unique accessories, like the MagOn Magnetic Wireless Power Bank.
Design
Straightaway, it is obvious that the folks at Veger have decided not to go too wild with the design of the MagOn Magnetic Wireless Power Bank. It looks quite plain, which is fine because function is definitely more important than form. It is also relatively light weighing in at only 170g, meaning that you can use it with your smartphone and won’t have to worry about it weighing like a brick in your bag or pocket.
According to Veger, the MagOn Magnetic Wireless Power Bank has been designed especially for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series in mind. It will work with cases designed to be compatible with MagSafe, or even if you don’t have a MagSafe case, don’t worry because it will still play nicely with your case as long as it is less than 2mm thick.
It even comes with a little strap that will make it easier to carry or if you want to hook it onto your bag. Veger also claims that the magnets used in the MagOn Magnetic Wireless Power Bank are strong enough that you won’t have to worry about it slipping off your smartphone while it is in use. They have also designed it in such a way that you can attach it to your iPhone and it will not block the phone’s lens.
Features
While on the surface the MagOn Magnetic Wireless Power Bank seems like your typical MagSafe compatible power bank, there’s actually more to the power bank than meets the eye. In addition to being a magnetic power bank, it comes with three additional ports – an 18W Lightning input port that you can use to charge the device, a 20W USB-C bi-directional port (which means you can use it to charge the power bank or use it to charge another device), and a 22.5W USB-A output port.
By including all these ports, the MagOn Magnetic Wireless Power Bank suddenly becomes a lot more useful. You can not only charge your iPhone wirelessly, but you can charge other smartphones using the USB-C or USB-A ports as well. According to Veger, charging a device using the USB-C port will let you charge a phone from 0-60% in just 30 minutes.
The wireless charging function of the MagOn Magnetic Wireless Power Bank will also allow you to charge other wireless devices like true wireless earbuds, and will support speeds of up to 15W.
The built-in battery has a 10,000mAh capacity which is plenty. Given that the iPhone 13 Pro Max’s battery is 4,352mAh, in theory you should be able to squeeze around two full charges worth before the MagOn Magnetic Wireless Power Bank’s battery runs out. This is pretty decent because unless you’re running out of battery more than twice a day, this should be more than enough to get most people through the day and then some.
Safety
As with most batteries, there is some degree of concern regarding safety, but users won’t have to worry. The MagOn Magnetic Wireless Power Bank comes with built-in intelligent safeguards designed to help prevent issues like overcharging, overheating, and overcurrents, so you don’t have to worry about the power bank catching on fire or exploding.
