The problem with adopting new form factors like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and Flip series is that developers now have new display sizes and aspect ratios to work with. For the Flip series, it isn’t too bad, but for the Fold series, developers will need to make sure that their apps work on the cover screen and the inner foldable screen.
Of course, developers aren’t obliged to do so, but they should if they’re hoping for more downloads or purchases. The good news for developers and owners of Samsung’s foldables is that the company has recently added their new Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 smartphones to the Samsung Remote Test Lab.
For those unfamiliar, the Remote Test Lab is basically a platform that allows developers to create and test their apps to make sure they’re optimized for Samsung’s foldables. The best part is that it is essentially a virtual testing platform, meaning that smaller developers won’t have to fork out close to $3,000 to get their hands on both phones to test their apps on.
Of course, how many developers actually take Samsung up on their offer and make use of the Remote Test Lab remains to be seen, but at the very least Samsung is ensuring that the tools are out there for developers to use if they want to create more apps that are optimized for foldable phones.
