Xiaomi is a company that most of us know as one that sells smartphones, but over the years, the company has branched out into all kinds of gadgets. For example, they sell smart lightbulbs, robot vacuum cleaners, computer monitors, electric scooters, electric toothbrushes, air purifiers, and electric screwdriver sets, just to name a few.
So it doesn’t really come as a surprise to learn that Xiaomi is looking to go even further beyond smartphones by announcing its latest creation – the CyberOne. As you can see in the video below, the CyberOne is a bipedal robot, which means that it is a robot capable of walking like a human being.
According to the official specs, the CyberOne stands at 177cm tall and weighs 52kg and has a top speed of 3.6kmph, slightly below the average walking speed. Xiaomi has also equipped the robot with a machine vision system that helps it navigate, and apparently it has AI smarts that can “perceive” human emotion.
Now, before you go off wondering where you can buy the Xiaomi CyberOne, you can’t. It is currently a prototype and we’re not sure if the company has plans to sell it. The company’s press release suggests that the CyberOne is more like a proof of concept, or rather a way for Xiaomi to showcase their technology and how far they’ve come and how it could potentially lead to other creations in the future.
That being said, we’re not sure if there is even a demand for such robots right now beyond certain specific scenarios, so it probably wouldn’t make sense for Xiaomi to build one and try to sell it, but it’s an interesting direction for the company nonetheless.
