When it comes to mobile gaming, companies like Sony and Microsoft have kind of kept a low-profile on that front, instead choosing to focus on platforms like PC and console, but Sony could be looking to shake up its strategy with their latest acquisition of Savage Game Studios.
The studio, for those unfamiliar, has helped other publishers develop mobile titles. We’re talking about companies like Rovio, Zynga, and Wargaming, just to name a few, so they definitely have experience on that front. According to Sony:
“Our mobile gaming efforts will be similarly additive, providing more ways for more people to engage with our content, and striving to reach new audiences unfamiliar with PlayStation and our games. Savage Game Studios is joining a newly created PlayStation Studios Mobile Division, which will operate independently from our console development and focus on innovative, on-the-go experiences based on new and existing PlayStation IP.”
The company is also reassuring gamers that their decision to start developing more mobile titles does not mean that they will be shifting their focus away from bringing console titles to the PC, or from the PlayStation console family.
There is currently no word on what title we will see being developed first, but if you’re primarily a mobile gamer, Sony’s latest efforts should be good news.
