Nokia has been through quite a journey since its revival under HMD Global a few years back. The brand started strong with a limited set of Android phones back in 2017-2018, touted for their value with consistent software updates, a near-stock version of Android, as well as terrific build quality with glass and metal materials.
Recent handsets from the brand however have taken a different approach, revolving around plastic builds and standard hardware design that plays it safe. With that being said, HMD Global and Nokia have finally unveiled the Nokia X30, a new mid-range phone that comes with both good looks and internal specs.
In terms of hardware design, the Nokia X30 is partly made from recycled polycarbonate material for the rear panel, and recycled aluminum for the frame around the entirety of the handset. Nokia presents the device as its “smallest eco-footprint” in a smartphone. On the front you’ll find a 6.43-inch FHD+ resolution AMOLED screen with Nokia’s “PureDisplay” branding, which comes with Gorilla Glass Victus and a 90Hz refresh rate.
Inside, the phone is powered by a Qualcomm 695 5G chipset, with storage options of either 6 to 8GB RAM, as well as 128 or 256GB of internal storage. There’s also NFC, micro-SD storage expansion, and a 4,200 mAh battery with support for 33W fast-charging. The rear panel houses the dual-camera array with a 50MP wide and 13MP ultrawide lens, while the front comes with a 16MP selfie camera.
Nokia says that the X30 will support up to three years of OS upgrades and will launch with Android 12, which makes it a nice option for people looking for a capable budget handset from the Finnish brand. The decent chipset, as well as the solid build quality should make for one reliable smartphone, as far as affordable options go.
