It has been pretty much a given that for the upcoming Pixel 7 smartphones, Google will be using a new version of its Tensor chipset that first debuted with the Pixel 6 in 2021. Now according to 9to5Google, they have discovered on Google’s own website that the company references the Tensor G2 chipset.
This will be the new chipset that will be powering Google’s upcoming flagship phones, but exactly what are the changes over its predecessor remains to be seen. It was kind of big deal when Google announced the Tensor chipset back in 2021 because for the longest time ever, Google’s flagship Nexus and Pixel phones have typically relied on Qualcomm’s chipsets.
While on the software front there are certain exclusive Pixel features that you won’t find on non-Pixel phones, ultimately there are certain limitations when it comes to using hardware that is made by other companies. This is one of the advantages Apple has had over Android where the company has long relied on custom hardware, so it was nice and exciting to see Google shift to that direction.
Google has also recently confirmed that the Pixel 7 smartphones will be announced at an event that will be held on the 6th of October, so we should have all the official details regarding the Tensor G2 and the Pixel 7 phones then.
