How to disable Bixby on the Samsung Galaxy S22

While most other Android smartphone brands are more than happy to use Google Assistant as their phone’s digital assistant, Samsung actually went ahead and created their own – Bixby – in an attempt to better compete against Apple and Google and also as a way to create their own ecosystem.

Bixby has its advantages and disadvantages, but if you’re not a fan of the digital assistant and would much prefer using Google Assistant when it comes to voice control, disabling Bixby on your Samsung Galaxy S22 is actually a pretty straightforward process, and it could be a good way of regaining control of the phone’s power button and to stop Bixby from accidentally launching.

Remove Bixby from the Galaxy S22’s Side Key

1. Swipe down from the top of the screen
2. Tap the settings icon at the top right corner of the display
3. Scroll down and tap on Advanced features
4. Tap on Side key
5. Under “Press and hold”, make sure “Power off menu” is selected instead of “Wake Bixby”

Now what happens is when you press and hold the Side Key, it will no longer launch Bixby but will pull up the power off menu instead. This might be helpful in instances where you might accidentally press and hold it.

Turn off Bixby’s wake up command

One of the perks of digital assistants is that they’re always listening to their wake command so that users can activate it using just their voice. In some situations it can be annoying because some words do sound like trigger words and might accidentally wake it up, so here’s how to disable Bixby’s wake command.

1. Open the Galaxy S22’s app drawer and tap on Bixby
2. On the floating Bixby bar, tap the compass icon located at the right
3. Tap the three-dot icon at the top right corner
4. Tap on Settings
5. Look for “Voice wake-up” and tap on the toggle to disable it (it will turn grey)

Once these changes are made, Bixby is effectively disabled in terms of voice support. There’s no way to actually delete Bixby, but if you’re not a fan, these methods will pretty much ensure that you will never run into it (for the most part).
