Samsung just pushed out a firmware update for the 7-year old Galaxy S6

When it comes to software support for Android smartphones, we’re usually looking at around 3-5 years, but it looks like Samsung has gone beyond that because according to a report from GalaxyClub.nl, Samsung has pushed out a firmware update for the Galaxy S6, a phone that was originally released back in 2015.

Now, obviously this update won’t be bumping the phone to Android 13, but rather it could be due to a GPS bug that Samsung has decided to patch. For those unfamiliar, some of Samsung’s older phones are affected by a GPS bug and over the months, we’ve seen Samsung patch devices like the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S7, so in a way it’s not surprising that it made its way to the Galaxy S6.

That being said, the changelog does not mention anything about a GPS fix, but there is a good chance it could be related. We have to wonder how severe this bug must have been if Samsung is actually rolling out an update for a phone they launched seven years ago, a phone that we highly doubt is in rotation much these days.

But we suppose maybe for legal reasons, Samsung is covering their bases just to be sure, so if any of you happen to still be using the Galaxy S6 as your daily driver, or if you have it lying around, then you might want to keep an eye out for this update.
