Razer is a brand that’s primarily known for manufacturing high-end gaming laptops and peripherals, all designed to cater to folks looking to invest in some serious gaming action. With that said, it looks like the company is making a return to the handheld gaming market, with the announcement of is upcoming Razer Edge handheld.
Announced in partnership with Verizon and Qualcomm, the Razer Edge 5G will run on the Snapdragon G3X 1 Gaming platform, specifically designed for powerful gaming performance on the go. It will come with Android, which will have support for offline Android games, as well as online titles and streaming services.
The announcement of the Razer Edge follows the newfound revival of dedicated gaming handhelds in the tech space, led in general by systems such as the Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck, and other competitors like the recently-announced Logitech G Cloud Gaming handheld. Unlike the Logitech G handheld though, the Razer Edge’s 5G connectivity means that players aren’t stuck to WiFi connections, something that Logitech’s handheld lacks.
This isn’t Razer’s first entry into mobile gaming – back in 2013, the company launched the Razer Edge Gaming Tablet, which featured a unique controller grip and ran on Android as well.
The Razer Edge will be officially announced on October 15 during Razer’s “RazerCon” product event and showcase.
