It has been a little over a decade since Microsoft released Windows 7 and we imagine that many users by now should have upgraded to either Windows 10 or Windows 11. But if for whatever reason you are still using Windows 7 or Windows 8 and you also use Google’s Chrome browser, then you might want to consider upgrading.
This is because Google has announced that with the upcoming Chrome 110 update that is scheduled for a release in February 2023, they will be ending support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. This means that unless you don’t plan to ever update Chrome again, you will need to use a newer version of Windows to receive future Chrome updates.
According to Google:
“Older versions of Chrome will continue to work, but there will be no further updates released for users on these operating systems. If you are currently on Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, we encourage you to move to a supported Windows version before that date to ensure you continue to receive the latest security updates and Chrome features.”
To be fair to Google, like we said, we imagine that most users would have updated to Windows 10 or 11 by now so the number of users that may be impacted could be very small, but either way, it’s something you’ll want to take note of if you or someone you know is still using an older version of Windows.
