Don’t get too excited about Redmi’s 210W charging speeds just yet
Recently, Redmi announced its latest smartphone, the Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition that came with support for 210W charging speeds. It sounds awesome and according to Redmi, those speeds would juice up the phone’s 4,300mAh battery to full in as little as 9 minutes, which would have been great if it were true.
As it turns out, real life is very different from the marketing claims. This is according to independent testing conducted by the folks at this Chinese publication who discovered that the phone’s charging speeds were different in real life compared to what the company advertised.
According to their tests, the phone managed to reach peak charging speeds of 184.85W during the first three minutes of their test, and after that the power started to fall off. Ultimately, it managed to fully charge the phone in 10 minutes and 10 seconds, a little over a minute longer than Redmi’s claims of nine minutes.
Should we be surprised? Honestly, it doesn’t really come as a shock. To be able to maintain a steady 210W would be very impressive, but the fact that it didn’t even hit the 200W mark means that Redmi’s claims are definitely far from the reality. That being said, 10 minutes to fully charge a phone is still pretty good and we wouldn’t be too upset, but maybe just temper your expectations if you are planning on getting the phone.
