As we have said before, camera megapixels on phones are usually used for marketing purposes. While they have their use and are important in certain regards, most users probably won’t shoot at the full resolution anyway, plus uploading it to social media or sending it through messaging platforms ends up seeing it compressed.
What we are more interested in are sensor sizes, which is why earlier this year we were quite excited when the Xiaomi 12S Ultra debuted with Sony’s brand new 1-inch IMX989 sensor. The good news is that it looks like Xiaomi plans to keep using the sensor and that it will most likely debut on the Xiaomi 13 Pro, according to a tweet by Yogesh Brar.

The Xiaomi 13 Pro will be the company’s next flagship and one of the selling points would be the use of the 50MP 1-inch sensor as the main shooter of the phone, which will be accompanied by another 50MP ultrawide, and a 50MP telephoto lens. Other rumored specs include a 6.7-inch 2K display, and the use of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.
Presumably Xiaomi will be tweaking the software used by the camera to try and get more out of it, so we can’t wait to see what the camera will be capable of when it debuts. There’s no word on when the Xiaomi 13 Pro will be officially announced, but chances are it will be in the early part of 2023, so we’ll just have to remain patient until then.
