Google’s Street View app could be shutting down next year

0

One of the cool features about Google Maps is Street View, where it provides users with actual photos of the area they are looking at and can pan around to better help users with their bearings.

This feature can be easily accessed via the Google Maps app on your phone, but for some users, they might have downloaded the dedicated Street View app. The bad news is that if you’re in the latter camp, come 2023 you might no longer be able to use it.

This is according to an APK teardown by the folks at 9to5Google who discovered that there are notes in the app that seem to suggest that Google will be retiring the app on the 21st of March, 2023.

“Street View App is going away

The app is going away and support will end March 21, 2023.

To publish your own 360 video, switch to Street View Studio. To view Street View and add Photo Spheres, use Google Maps.”

The Street View feature itself isn’t going away, but rather the dedicated app. Like we said, users could easily access the feature via Google Maps already, so for Google to maintain a standalone app seems like a waste of resources. Google hasn’t actually come forward and confirmed anything yet, but assuming those dates are accurate, the Street View app isn’t long for this world.
