How to design your own WhatsApp Avatar

Using your own photo as a profile picture on messenger apps and social media is pretty standard, but what if you wanted something a little more whimsical or cartoony? You could download images off the web, but short of actually designing them yourself, sometimes these images aren’t the best representation.

This is why we’re starting to see more companies like Apple, Samsung, LINE, and more introduce features like avatar creation, where users can customize a digital character of themselves, and this is why it’s not surprising that WhatsApp has also introduced the feature themselves.

If you’re interested in creating your own WhatsApp avatar, then read on to find out what you need to do, but don’t worry, it’s really easy and straightforward.

Create a WhatsApp Avatar

1. Launch WhatsApp
2. Tap on the Settings button
3. You should now see your username and underneath your profile photo, tap on “Avatar”
4. Tap Create Your Avatar
5. Follow the steps and customize your avatar
6. When you’re happy with your edits, tap on Done and your avatar has been created

If you want to use your newly-created avatar as your profile picture:

1. Launch WhatsApp
2. Tap on Settings
3. Tap your profile photo and tap Edit
4. Tap Edit again
5. Tap Use Avatar
6. Pick the facial expression or action you want your avatar to be doing and you’re all set!
