During the early days of the smartphone, a lot of phones relied on digital zoom to achieve the zoom in effect. This basically meant that the phone would digitally crop an image to give you the impression that it has zoomed into the subject.
While this works for the most part, there are instances where it won’t work as well due to the fact that the more you crop, the more pixelated the image becomes depending on the sensor size. We have since come a long way, and now LG Innotek has unveiled a new telephoto camera module for smartphones ahead of CES 2023.
They also claim that the module’s thickness has been reduced to help remove the camera bump that we see in many smartphones these days. The company has also stated that they are working with Qualcomm on the software front and they expect that it will debut alongside some Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 smartphones come 2023.
We expect more details to be revealed at CES 2023, so check back with us in the coming weeks for more updates.
