More often than not these days, spam calls are rampant and we’re sure that at some point in time, we’ve all received one of these calls. The best thing to do is simply reject calls from numbers that aren’t familiar to you, but it’s not the most practical thing, especially since legit calls might come from numbers that aren’t saved in your contacts.
That being said, if you are a Google Voice user, then you might be interested to learn that Google is introducing a new call screening feature called “Suspected spam caller”. This new feature, as its name suggests, will flash a warning when a call is coming in through Google Voice to let you know that this might be a suspected spam.
When this warning pops up, users have two choices – confirm that the call is a spam call in which future calls from that number will go straight to voicemail and that all call histories with that number are also put into a spam folder. Then there is another option where users can mark a call as not spam, in which the warning label for that number will not appear in future calls.
In a way, this is kind of similar to how Google handles spam emails in Gmail where users can mark or unmark emails when they come in. It’s a pretty cool feature but it is only available for Google Voice, so for those who don’t use the feature might miss out on it. Alternatively, carriers do have their own protection systems to fight against robocalls, so that might also be worth looking into if you’re not a Google Voice user.
