Samsung is no doubt the king of foldable phones, and for a brief moment, it seemed that LG could have challenged that status quo by going in a different direction, a phone with a rollable display. Alas, that never came to be, but no one’s really stepped into LG’s shoes since.
But now it looks like Samsung could. Samsung Display has recently unveiled a brand new display called the Flex Hybrid OLED. As the name suggests, this is a hybrid display and by that it means that it can not only fold, but it can slide out as well. This means that there are more options when it comes to the type of devices that can be made with it.
The company is expected to also showcase the Flex Slidable Solo and the Flex Slidable Duet, both of which are slidable displays as their name suggests and not foldable ones. At the moment it is unclear which products Samsung plans to use these displays for, but if you were keen on a rollable smartphone or tablet, it looks like Samsung could be a brand to keep an eye out for in the future.
