Every year, Qualcomm typically waits until the end of the year where they hold their Snapdragon Summit where they unveil their next-gen chipset that will be used in the following year’s phones. But this year, the next-gen chipset could be revealed a little earlier than expected.

This is according to a report from ITHome in which they claim that Qualcomm might reveal the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in October, which is a month earlier than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 which was revealed in November last year. It has also been suggested that one of the reasons why is that Qualcomm might skip on the “plus” model this year.

In terms of specs, not much is known about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, except that it will offer up better performance and better power consumption than its predecessor. It will also sport a different core configuration where it will feature 1+5+2 cores versus the 1+4+3 cores found in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

We’re not sure why Qualcomm might unveil the chipset earlier, but if they are skipping the “plus” model, there is a chance that we might see some phones take advantage of the Gen 3 before the end of the year, but either way it’s too early to tell so take it with a grain of salt for now.
