A while back, we got word that Google’s Play Games Beta for PC was finally made available for users in the US, and a recent announcement from Google has confirmed that the service will be arriving to more regions in the coming months. The update was made known through the recent Google for Games Developer Summit 2023.
More specifically, Google Play Games on PC will be expanding to more regions and will soon feature more games as well. The platform will make its way to Japan and several regions in Europe this 2023, and users can expect games including Garena Free Fire, Ludo King, and MapleStory M to be playable soon.
Google will also enable developers to submit existing mobile builds in the meantime to reach players faster. Devs can register their interest if their mobile games play well on desktop configurations, which Google says is made possible through its partnership with Intel. Developers can also use the Google Play Games on PC developer emulator, which is designed for app debugs and build processes.
Developers can also check out Google’s new release checklist to verify if they’ve completed all the necessary steps before submitting builds for approval. The checklist covers key requirements including using high-resolution textures and assets, supporting Windows aspect ratios, and implementing mouse and keyboard input.
Google further adds that it plans to implement Next Generation Player IDs this year. These will keep a user’s Player ID consistent across surfaces for any given game, while enabling them to be unique across different games.
