A while back, WhatsApp introduced a new privacy feature in the form of disappearing messages. This allowed users to create chats where messages sent in that chat would disappear after a period of time.
At the moment, WhatsApp only allows messages to self-destruct after 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days, which are set by the user. For those who feel that these timeframes are too long and want something a bit more immediate, an upcoming update to the app will change that for you.
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp appears to be testing out a change to disappearing messages where users will soon be able to choose from more timeframes in which their messages will self-destruct. This includes as short as 1 hour, 3 hours, 6 hours, 12 hours, or 2 days, 3 days, 4 days, 5 days, 6 days, and so on.
Users will also be able to choose a maximum of 1 year, which is pretty long, but we suppose might still be useful for some. We would have liked to see a custom timer or perhaps one that lasts only minutes, but we suppose this will have to do for now. Users who are still finding that these timers are too long can always opt to delete their messages after they have been sent.
At the moment there is no mention of when this new feature is expected to roll out to the public, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
